Getting started
How to enjoy Edo Mura
Start with someone who catches your eye, and see where their day takes them. Return here whenever you need a hand with the controls.
The game interface is currently in Japanese. This guide includes the Japanese button labels so you can find each control.
Start your village and look around
Open “Play Edo Mura,” choose a village name and start. The residents live and work on their own, so you can simply watch.
Use “横画面” (Landscape) or “縦画面” (Portrait) at the top to change the layout. In portrait view, move left or right to explore. “全景を見る” (Overview) shows the whole village. “倍速” (Speed) changes how quickly the village runs; “一時停止” (Pause) stops the village and its audio.
Open “設定” (Settings) for “UIを隠す” (Hide UI) or “村の名前を変更” (Rename village).
Meet residents and choose favorites
Click or tap a resident to see their name and what they are doing. For more detail, open “村の情報” (Village information), then “村人の情報” (Resident information), and select a name.
You can view family, close friends and memories. “お気に入りにする” (Add to favorites) makes a resident easier to find. “村で見る” (Locate in village) and “追いかける” (Follow) help you keep an eye on their day.
Watch the seasons and festivals
Spring, summer, autumn and winter follow the village calendar. The weather and time of day also change the scenery and natural sounds. Children grow, and residents age as the years pass.
Residents gather for cherry blossom viewing, Tanabata, Bon dancing, moon viewing, rice-cake pounding and New Year shrine visits. Keep the village at normal speed to enjoy a gathering for longer. “里の便り” (Village newsletter) records events you may have missed.
Adjust the sound
Open “音の調整” (Sound settings) to adjust music, sound effects and timer alerts separately. You can choose music only, environmental sounds only, or mute all audio.
Your browser may wait for your first click or tap before allowing audio. If you hear nothing, interact with the page and check both the app and device volume. Village pause also silences focus-timer alerts.
Make time for focus and breaks
In Settings, choose “集中時計を使う” (Use focus timer), select a routine and press “開始” (Start). The 10-, 25- and 50-minute routines include a 15-minute long break after four focus sessions. The 52/17 routine repeats 52 minutes of focus and 17 minutes of rest, with no separate long break.
The timer is independent of village speed. “集中時計を閉じる” (Close focus timer) hides its display. Device notifications while the app is closed are not supported.
Your village is saved in your browser
Village progress and settings are stored in the browser you use. Return using the same browser and site origin to resume. The app does not automatically upload your save data to a server.
For a village you want to keep, export a backup as well as relying on browser storage.
Export a backup or restore a village
- Open Settings, then “村の保存と復元” (Save and restore village).
- Choose the export action and keep the downloaded JSON file on your device.
- To restore, choose a saved file in the same panel.
- Review the village shown in the import preview, then confirm the restore.
Restoring replaces your current village with the selected backup. Export your current village first if you may want to return to it.
You can use the same process to move to another device or browser. Backups may include names you entered for focus activities, so check before sharing a file.
Know the limits of browser storage
Clearing this site’s browser data may delete your village and settings. Private or incognito browsing may not keep them after the session ends.
Storage is separate for each site origin. Moving the game to another page on the same origin keeps the same save keys. When changing domains, devices or browsers, or moving from the local file version, export a backup and restore it in the new location.
